Facility Energy Decision System (FEDS) Software

Battelle Number: 11149-E | N/A

Technology Overview

The critical need to identify the best energy-saving systems and retrofits for companies, schools, state buildings, and federal facilities extends across the United States. PNNL has developed a software program, Facility Energy Decision System or FEDS Software, that assesses the potential for cost-effective energy-efficiency projects at a single building or at sites with numerous facilities that have limited metered energy-use data. Developed originally for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), FEDS is a user-friendly, menu-driven, Windows-based software program that provides a comprehensive method for quickly and objectively identifying energy improvements that offer maximum savings.

FEDS makes assessments and analyzes energy efficiency in single or multiple buildings. Users can quickly compare energy savings potential across different sites through multiple FEDS runs. It provides an easy-to-use tool for identifying retrofits, selecting minimum life cycle cost retrofits, determining payback, and enabling users to prioritize options. FEDS provides the information needed to meet energy-efficiency project goals. These features make it an effective software product for targeting the most promising building and end-use retrofit opportunities, expeditiously estimating capital investment requirements, and determining potential energy and cost savings, along with associated emissions impacts.

Advantages

  • Calculates lowest life cycle cost-effective energy systems for all building types
  • Provides a consistent basis for decision-making on retrofit options
  • Reduces time and labor required to collect, analyze, store, and update building data
  • Delivers the information necessary for writing project funding proposals
  • Serves as an integral part of a cost-savings program
