GreenArrow© - A New Graph Labeling Technique

Battelle Number: 14468-E | N/A

Technology Overview

In today's computing environment there are increasing numbers of applications that display computational graphs of data. Whether these graphs are diagrams of network applications, database designs or software engineering plans, labels describing the features of these graphs are essential to understanding the information presented. In fact, labels are needed on all graphs -- from simple bar graphs to complex relationship diagrams to very complex geographical maps.

Graphing tools available today typically label graphs through computationally intensive label assignments. GreenArrow© is a new labeling technique for semantic graphs that uses the label itself to represent the edges and nodes.

Advantages

  • Cost effective solution
  • A lot of information can be conveyed in a form that both the label and the structure of the semantic graph can be displayed
  • Single-pixel lines are drawn when the text is too small to be legible
  • Text in the form of represented icons are display rather than a simple picture
  • Useful approach when semantic graph labels are generated from a limited set of keywords
